The Hamptons
I was pretty much the queen of quarantine and literally thriving. For three months, I was super strict with my lock down but recently, I traveled to the Hamptons with my friends for Steph’s birthday. I was so nervous to spend time A) away from Lola and B) with a group of people. Luckily, everyone was on the same page about the virus and we were all super careful and respectful of each other’s boundaries. Originally, I was so nervous that I had said I wasn’t gonna go but I am soooooo glad I went. The weekend out east was literally a dream!
After agreeing to go, I decided to just go for Saturday night and come back on Sunday. Then, I ended up going Thursday morning and extending through Tuesday evening hehe. I did not want to leave at all.
Thursday
Woke up early and did some stretches. I find that my Whoop recoveries are much better when I spend time doing yoga or stretching and I just feel so much better. It’s important to move your body when you travel because whether you are traveling by bus, car, train or plane, you will be in a sedentary position for an extended period of time. My friend Dan picked us up in his beautiful Jeep & off we went. I still had to work so when we got to our friend Loc’s beautiful Southampton house, I connected to the wifi immediately. Later, I was able to squeeze in some tennis during lunch in which Dan and Loc beat me and Steph 7-6... We will never hear the end of it! To top off the perfect day, we spent some time by the pool before we finished our drive in Montauk for the night. We grabbed dinner from MTK Lobster House and ate it on the beach while watching the sunset and drinking white claws, Casamigos tequila and some sparkling rose. The most perfect day/night!
Friday
Again, I had to work so Dan & Steph went for a bike ride and then Dan brought us breakfast (what an angel). We ordered from Joni’s in Montauk and I had a GF breakfast burrito with eggs, mushrooms and vegan cheese and an iced matcha latte. Delish! Steph and I recently discovered that I have some sort of dairy intolerance because cheese upsets my stomach and I also have a slight gluten intolerance. For the next few weeks I’ll be transitioning into a GF and dairy free diet.
Anyway, back to the Hamptons. On this day, we got to check into our house. An Airbnb like no other. It was this beautiful, modern structure surrounded by trees. 3 floors with 3 bedrooms and a reading nook on the main floor (2nd floor). The top floor had a massive living room space so big that there were two sets of couches. The kitchen was beautiful and had a cute little bar area with stools and then the dining room was filled with this long table with chairs on one side but a booth-like bench on the other. Outside, the patio wrapped around almost the entire house and it was filled with plants, a picnic table and a grill. There was this staircase going up and at the top there was this extension of the patio with benches wrapping around the edges of that area and a concrete center table. It was amazing. You can find it HERE on Airbnb.
Our friends started to trickle in throughout the afternoon and we just hung out and had family dinner (shout out to Dan for feeding us).
Saturday
Saturday was Steph’s actual birthday and in true Steph fashion, she wanted to exercise the entire day. Most people joined her on a crazy bike ride from Amagansett to the Montauk lighthouse, which was ~17 miles. Of course Steph biked to the bike shop, which was an additional 20 miles. I wanted no part of this, obviously, so I took Dan’s Jeep and blasted music with the windows down and met them at the lighthouse. We ate dinner at this popular local spot called “The Lobster Roll” aka “Lunch” and had lobster rolls and shrimp and all kinds of other stuff. We went back to the house to hang out and some of Steph’s friends came to the house for dinner. Apparently they had been out boating and they showed up with like 40 lbs of fish. They took over the kitchen, cleaned the fish and grilled it. It was magical to watch and even more magical to eat. So much food and it was all so yummy. Our other friend Jordan then made Salmon using a cedar plank and it was the star of the show.
Sunday
My personal fave! On this day, we rented a boat out of Sag Harbor from 2:30-6:30 in the afternoon. I don’t remember ever being on a boat like that and I was so scared I was going to get seasick but after a couple of tequila shots you kind of don’t have a care in the world. I covered like 12 airplane bottle-sized Casamigos with gold glitter and we chugged those just before jumping in the water. 100/10 recommend drinking tequila before jumping in. The water was cold but the sun was strong so it was the perfect contrast. I was worried that my lashes would come loose because you’re not really supposed to get them wet but they did not budge (shout out to Lashify). Neither did my waterproof eyeliner so I was one happy camper. Then some people went tubing and wakeboarding and I really just laid there and drank tequila in the sun (#goalsAF). After the boat ride, we grabbed a ton of pizzas and ate them on the beach while we watched the sunset again. So amazing! After all of this, we went home and they played a movie but I had to work on a submission for a Tableau competition, which was due at midnight. I was kicking myself for not dedicating enough time to that but I was able to finish just in time.
Monday
Back to work! Thank God we can work from home because I would have never been able to do any of this if I had to go into the office. Monday was very chill. At this point, almost everyone had gone home except for Dan, Jordan, Steph and myself. We hung out around the house and then went to our other friends’ house because they had a pool and a ping pong table. Steph is like a master level ping ponger and Stevie wanted to challenge her. What a fun afternoon! Since we just had 1 day left, I decided to take a day off on Tuesday to recover from the weekend. Life is rough lol.
Tuesday
Wah!! Last day! So we were getting our stuff ready to go to see our other friends with the pool again (shout out to Gibbles, Stevie, Joelle, Eva and Phillip for letting us crash again) when I got a work email. I was thinking fuck, I’m gonna have to log into work but that was not the case. I actually found out that my submission from the other night had placed in the top 3 and that I was in the finals on Thursday! So happy I had taken the day off! We went to the other house and hung out and drank and just enjoyed the day. We grabbed dinner from K Pasa in Sag Harbor and the tacos were very good. Pretty small and more like a traditional taco but still delicious, nonetheless.
Wow long post but I just cant get over that weekend. Each person in the group brought a unique vibe and energy to the whole group and it was just really lovely to spend time with people after being in quarantine for so long. Definitely an unforgettable weekend — cheers to you, Steph! May this next decade be the best one yet.
